Video Properties

The Video Properties set the file, alternative files, subtitles, sound, click behavior, and position of a video pinned to the panorama.

Use the Video mode in the Viewer to pin a video to the panorama. The video distorts with the panorama as if it were part of the scene, and it can pop out undistorted when clicked. Select a pinned video to see its properties in the Properties panel.

Switch to Master Node – This button appears only when the selected video comes from the tour’s master node while another node is open in the Viewer. Click it to switch to the master node.

ID – Each video gets a unique ID, starting with Element01. Use the ID as the target of an action in the Skin Editor, for example to start or stop the video from a button.

File – The video file. To add or replace it, do one of the following:

  • Click the folder button, then choose the video file.
  • Drag the file onto the File field.
  • Drag the file into the Viewer.

Right-click the file name to edit it or to show the file in Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS).

Alternative File(s) – Other versions of the video, for example in another codec or at a lower resolution, for browsers and devices that can’t play the main file. The player picks the best file the browser supports, so the order of the files doesn’t matter. Add up to three alternative files; a new field appears as soon as the previous one is filled. Click the gear button next to a field to convert the main file into an alternative file with the built-in converter, which offers only the formats the current computer can write.

Preview File – A JPEG or PNG image that the player shows as a poster before the video starts. When you add a video in the Viewer, Pano2VR offers to create a preview file from the video and asks where to save it.

Copy files to output – Select to copy the video file and its alternative files into the output folder. Deselect it to reference the files at their original location, for example on a web server.

Size – The video’s dimensions in pixels (width by height). They are read from the video file, and it’s best to leave them unchanged. To make the video smaller or larger in the panorama, drag its handles in the Viewer instead.

Image Mask File – A PNG or SVG mask that blends the edges of the video into the panorama. Click the gear button to generate a feathered mask: enter a Feather Radius in pixels (1 to 999), and Pano2VR saves the mask as a PNG file next to the video. This is useful for the Embedded Video workflow.

Subtitles – Adds a subtitle track to the video. New videos start without subtitles.

  • None – The video has no subtitle track.
  • Automatic – Pano2VR uses a .vtt or .srt file with the same name as the video, and translated files with a language suffix, like tour_de.srt. The files that were found are listed below the menu.
  • File – Choose a specific subtitle file in Subtitle File.

SRT files are converted to WebVTT on output. The following settings are available when Subtitles is set to Automatic or File.

Show As – How the subtitles appear in the tour:

  • Skin text element – The active subtitle text is written into the skin variable named in Text Variable, so a text element in your skin can show it with your own styling. This is the default for pinned videos.
  • Native captions – The browser draws the subtitles on the video. In VR, the skin text element is used instead.

Kind – Marks the track as Subtitles or Captions. Captions also describe sounds other than speech, for viewers who can’t hear the audio.

Text Variable – The name of the skin variable that receives the subtitle text. Click the button next to the field to pick a text variable from the skins of the project’s web outputs. This field is available only when Show As is set to Skin text element.

Mode – How the video’s audio is heard. The modes are the same as for pinned sounds: Static, Surround, Directional Rectangular, Directional Circular, Effect Rectangular, and Effect Circular.

Level – The volume of the video’s audio, from 0 to 1. The default is 1, full volume.

Loop – How many times the video plays. The default is 1, which plays the video once. Enter 0 to loop the video endlessly, or -1 to keep it from starting on its own, so that a click or a skin action has to start it.

Ambient – The volume of the audio while the view is outside the sound field. Available for the Directional modes.

Auto-start – Select Start muted to start the video without sound when the browser doesn’t allow videos with sound to play on their own.

Horizontal Size – The horizontal size of the center of the sound field, where the audio plays at full volume. Available for the Directional and Effect modes.

Vertical Size – The vertical size of the center of the sound field. Available for the Rectangular modes.

Field Size – The size of the whole sound field, beyond which the audio plays at the Ambient level. Available for the Directional modes. The lowest value, shown as FoV, makes the field follow the current field of view.

Click Mode – What happens when a viewer clicks the video:

  • None – Nothing happens.
  • Play/Pause – Each click starts or pauses the video.
  • Pop Out Original – The video moves out of the panorama toward the viewer and is shown undistorted at its original size. A popped-out video plays with sound; click it again to return it to its place.
  • Pop Out Fit – The same, but the video is scaled to fit the player window.

Scaling – How much of the player window a popped-out video fills, from 10% to 100%. The default is 100%. Available when Click Mode is set to Pop Out Fit.

Pop Back – What happens to the video’s playback when it returns to the panorama. Available for the two pop-out click modes.

  • Stop – The video stops. This is the default.
  • Keep playing – The video keeps playing.
  • Keep playing muted – The video keeps playing without sound.

Hand Cursor – Select Enable to show a hand cursor when the pointer is over the video in the output.

Position – Select Lock to keep the video from being moved by accident. While it is locked, the rotation, pan, tilt, FoV, and vertical stretch fields are unavailable.

  • X Rotation – The rotation around the X axis, from -180° to 180°. Matches the top arrow in the preview image.
  • Y Rotation – The rotation around the Y axis, from -180° to 180°. Matches the left arrow in the preview image.
  • Z Rotation – The rotation around the Z axis, from -180° to 180°. Matches the center arrow in the preview image.
  • Pan – The horizontal position in degrees.
  • Tilt – The vertical position in degrees.
  • FoV – The horizontal field of view the video covers, from 1° to 150°. A smaller angle makes the video smaller.
  • Vertical Stretch – Stretches the video vertically, from 50% to 200%, to fit it exactly into a space like a TV screen. Values other than 100% distort the video. Select Lock next to the field to keep the stretch fixed while you drag the video’s corners in the Viewer.
